INDIVIDUAL HANDCRAFTED PIECES
SHIBORI is a Japanese word meaning "wring, squeeze and press".
The techniques applied to the fabric create pattern and memory.
Our collection is a fusion of traditional techniques passed down through generations of Japanese artisans with new, innovative techniques to accommodate modern tastes and new fibres.
Every home needs a touch of indigo, the colour of kings and the king of colours, gracing cottages and palaces alike since antiquity.
SHIBORI DESIGNS FOR THE HOME
All home wares and apparel are one off pieces that are
hand-dyed and individually sewn.
Jane has been studying Shibori techniques for over ten years having attended workshops with Shibori masters in Japan, England, China and America. She's also attended numerous workshops with talented Australian shibori artists, sharing and learning from each other.
As a qualified primary school teacher Jane loves the "art of teaching". There are often huge gaps between the artist and their ability to impart knowledge. After many years of putting pieces together Jane has developed a unique programme of learning that teaches the fundamentals of shibori in a thorough and sequential order. The techniques are taught in increasing order of difficulty so that a beginner, those who have dabbled and those wishing to extend their knowledge are empowered to embark on their own projects with understanding and confidence. Jane always use an indigo vat for her classes - a traditional dye often described as "the king of colours and the colour of kings"
Whilst she loves to create, explore and dye with indigo, Jane's real skill is in the teaching and sharing of this beautiful craft.
